What's Left?
When I glanced at the calendar recently I realized that we have less than 3 months of school left till graduation! So I think the question we are all asking ourselves is what's left? College acceptances, prom, AP tests, senior activities and graduation might be some of our answers. I feel like senior year has rushed by us without knowing it and with so little time left, I have really begun to reflect on my last four years of high school. I feel like a much different person than I was when I came in from junior high four years ago. I have learned so much, grown both physically and mentally, and met so many new people. I have so many memories from high school, and I will definitely cherish them as I head off to college in the fall. My philosophy is this: embrace new and exciting experiences as you move into a different part of your life, but don't forget those you leave behind- you might meet up with them again someday. I wish everyone the best of luck as we come close to ending our high school journey. You can do it 11 Seniors!!! -Dorothy Z.

I have to agree completely with what you have said! I am shocked everything has gone by so fast! Your philosophy is totally true too, I know that many of people that I wasn't really friends with in Junior High have become my best friends now. Now that we are all faced with moving on to different colleges, I sure hope that we won't forget each other, after all, we are all still from the same place, no matter how far away we go.

Agree! And not just within relationships. In every way, I feel as if I've come a little farther - changed a little bit. Among old friends and new, I've found a heart and a home. Within studies and work, I've gained some invaluable skills. In my world view and approach, I've grown and matured. I have eyes that see more and see through and deep. I have hands that do more and toward greater things, reach. My values, hopes, and dreams are more centered and true. Isn't it amazing what a few years can do?!
ReplyDeleteThe next four should be just as exciting - perhaps even more. The passion I've found, I intend to nurture and grow. And all of us, I am sure, will look back again one day and say: "my, how much we've changed!"

You're right, what's left? :x Haha, actually I hope the things we have left to do will occupy our minds so we don't have to constantly think about our 'leaving of high school.' I can't wait for a new start, but I also agree with your philosophy, enjoy your experiences now too.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I've only seen it in movies, I hope that one day in the future, our year will have a high school reunion. :)

Agreed. I can't believe there's less than two months left until we graduate. It still feels like I was a freshman just few months ago, and no I'm graduating this place! And yes, I realized that I've changed a lot, both mentally and physically. It seems almost radical! Amazing what four years can do to you. I will forever treasure my memory in high school, and hopefully I'll get to experience more and grow up as an individual in college.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great post Dorothy! Senior year has flown by just as you said and in a few weeks we will be graduated with college coming up right after that. I have no idea where the time went but we must take advantage of the time we have left because we aren't going to get it back. Even though it is almost the end of high school, it is the beginning of a bigger and greater journey.

Now it's less than 2 months! So many blogs about college and senior year ending, it's obvious what is on all of our minds the most. I like your philosophy, and agree that it's super important to remain in touch with people back home, despite everything new.

Oh Dorothy, I remember freshmen year when we met and I can see how we have changed since our freshmen year. I remember thinking in freshmen year, "Wow we still have four more years" and not its just 2 months and counting. I know that each of us will take on a different journey, but I know it will be one where we will meet more people and experience great new things. Good luck!

Now its almost one month! And I have to agree with you 100%. I look back on the person I am when I entered high school and who I am today, and I can't believe how far I've come and how much I have grown and changed. I never thought I would make it to see 18 years old and senior year. When i was 10, it seemed just so far away! And now it is almost in the past. It's kind of a bitter-sweet thing, don't ya think?

I totally agree with you that 4 years in high school have changed me a lot. I now look back at the stupid things I did, and laugh at myself that how childish I was. But I guess thats part of life, now lets make what's left of high school fun and enjoyable.

I really like your philosophy and I agree with it completely. We hear so many stories from adults about their high school experience and how many people they run into that they knew in those four special years and how it shaped thier life. I guess no matter how old we get, high school will always be relevent.

For me, it feels like senior year is going by too slow! Although first semester did seem to fly by, I still don't feel like it's going by fast enough! Maybe it's just because I'm so excited for college...I know I should try to embrace high school while I'm still in it, but I can't help but want to graduate asap!
ReplyDeleteYea it's getting close! I really liked yur part about not forgetting where we come from because it's the place and people that have shaped us. If I went to another high school I don't think I would have become the motivated and hardworking student that I am and will always be. So, we should never forget where we're from because we are that place :)

However, you must acknowledge that upon graduation, you might not see some of your friends ever again. I believe that the theme of senior year should be bond fortification; strengthen your friendships so that they can sail on for eternity.

everything has gone by so fast i cant believe its already been four years. time goes by so fast when your spending time with friends and family and making new memories to cherish forever. i hope we dont forget our high school years and the times we've had to file those long school days.

Wow! Thanks for all the awesome comments guys! I'm glad you all could connect with my post. It's nice to see that we are all reflecting on our last four years of high school- maybe that's part of growing up- we begin to see more of our past and remember the good times and the bad. That way, we can learn from our mistakes and relish our accomplishments. We're getting so close to graduation- I wish everyone the best of luck! -Dorothy
ReplyDeleteyeah, the best part about this time of the year is reflecting on all the people you've met and how you have grown. it's really lethargic looking back on these four years and thinking about how you would change this or how glad you are you did that. i'm glad we're graduating though:]
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! Freshmen year seems like forever ago and I definetly don't feel like the same person that I was back then. Everyone always said that high school goes by really fast and it will be over before you know it but that just didn't really affect me until I realized just how close we are to the end of the year and how fast it went by. And now that we're about to start college it's crazy to think that those four years can endup going by just as fast!

It's Crazy! Where has time gone? High school flew by with many great memories. It feels like the weeks go by so slowly but when you look back it's as if the years have passed in a blink. I love your philosophy and we definitely need to embrace the time we have left as seniors in high school.
ReplyDelete_Kaylee
I follow that philosophy as well- don't wish time away. Embrace every moment we have now with an open mind, and maybe we will be able to make memories that last! =D
ReplyDeletecollege is scary at first but its so fun! enjoy your last few weeks of high school :) check out my blog if you'd like!

After I recieved my acceptance letters, it's been hard for me to find motivation to do anything school related, especially Calculus. However, I try to convince myself to finish strong and leave behind no regrets. I want my lasting mark on this school to be my best effort. I don't want to remember senior year as the first time I failed a class or recived my lowest GPA. I want to remember it as my best year, untainted by regrets and "What ifs".

It is less than 2 months until we graduate! i can still vividly remember my freshman year. i have made lots of friends and met new teachers every year. i will never forget who is around me right now. people are getting their college acceptance letters these days and i hope everyone can go where he or she wants and will have a wonderful life there ! - Matt L
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to have had the chance to be at this school and meet so many different people and yes, these four years have flown by!! Everyone enjoy what time we have left and cherish every moment!!
ReplyDeleteAgreeeeed. A week and a half from now we will all be graduated and beginning our summer. How crazy is that?! The past four yours flew by and graduating is the only thing on everyones mind! Yet, like you stated, we cannot forget where we came from because it has molded us into the unique individuals we have become today.
