The Creature and the Creator-Melissa Mejico

In a sense I believe that Frankenstein and his creation are very much alike. Isolating himself from the world because of an obsession, Frankenstein shows his determination and drive to finishing a task he set his mind to. Despite the fact that the Creature did not ask to be abandoned in the middle of nowhere he gained a type of obsession and yearn for knowledge, love, and friendship. Their relationship, although distant, can be seen as a parent and child for Frankenstein did create him and their mindset was somewhat similar. Though their appearances were far from being alike they both struggled much. Frankenstein lost members of his family and the Creature longed to find a family he could call his own, love and affection. His obsession led Frankenstein to stop at nothing until his creation was complete just as the Creature did everything in his power to learn the ways of the normal human beings even coming to an understanding with himself and his position in the world. However, as also being the child of Frankenstein, the Creature can also be seen as an example of the dreadful decision many women make; abortion. Left and abandoned as if he were never "born".

  1. Your statement that Victor and his creature have a parent and child relationship is exactly what I initially thought when reading this book last semester. It shows that Victor has a very paternal and even maternal side to him. This also shows that he is a very complex chatacter, and that there is some logic behind his madness.

  2. i definitely agree with you that Victor and his creature share some things in common. although they seek for different goals, they both have desires to accomplish what they want. Victor's obsession of knowledge and the creature's eager for love and family seem very similar in the story.
